MYAA CODE OF CONDUCT & RELEASE AGREEMENT

The Manhattan Youth Athletic Association (MYAA) has established a Code of Conduct based on mutual respect between all individuals including Umpires, Managers, Coaches, Players, Parents/Guardians and spectators. Our goals are to promote the enjoyment of the game, fair play, sportsmanship, tolerance, respect and self-esteem through proper conduct, example and instruction.

Section A: Parents and Spectators

As a parent/guardian you play a special role in contributing to the needs and development of youngsters. Through your encouragement and good example, you can help assure that all boys and girls learn good sportsmanship and self-discipline. As a role model for your children, we ask that parents and spectators:

•Respect and support all umpires, managers, coaches, and players.

•Instill and promote the principals of good sportsmanship and fair play.

•Root for your team not against the opposing team.

•Applaud good plays on both teams.

•Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from youth athletics.

•Let umpires, managers and coaches do their job. While we can’t expect the players to be perfect all the times, neither are the umpires, managers and coaches. Judgment calls are part of the game. Only coaches should question an umpire’s call relating to the proper interpretation of the rules. All questions for the managers and coaches should be discussed before or after games.

•Recognize the value and importance of volunteer coaches. Without them, there would be no baseball program.

•Help maintain a clean and safe playing environment.

•Remember that your child wants to have fun.

Following this Code of Conduct will promote a valuable learning experience for your children. Adherence is the responsibility of all participants. Violations will be handled on an individual basis and can include a warning and removal for continued game violations. Multiple games violations will require a season suspension and possible removal of your child from the team roster.

Section B: Players

As a player, your attitude and participation is significant in the learning experience and enjoyment of the game for all players. Under the rules of sportsmanship and fair play, we ask that:

•All players respect the umpires, managers, coaches, parent, spectators and other players.

•Play fairly and follow the rules of the game.

•Cooperate with the umpires, managers and coaches.

•Respect the equipment and property provided for the game.

•Cheer to encourage your teammates as well as to recognize good plays on both teams.

•Let managers and coaches question umpire calls and rule interpretations.

•Make every attempt to be on time and ready to play for all games and practices.

•Always hustle and have fun.
