8U Boys Sunday Travel League Team
MEMORIAL DAY TOURNAMENT
The 8U Mavericks traveled to Palos for our first tournament of year and unfortunately were unable to pull out a victory, going 0-2, losing to both Palos teams. In all games, win or lose, there are always bright spots and positive performances to build off of for future games. Strong pitching performances were provided by Jake Paymaster, Tyler Busse, Liam Higgins and Nathan Smith that kept the Mavericks in the games; and some excellent defensive plays by Colin Christensen (SS), Tyler Busse (3B), and Sam Forsythe (CF) helped support their pitchers. And while the Mavericks weren't able to score enough runs to win, there were some standout offensive performances as well. Marc Thrash continued his hot streak at the plate going 3-6 on the day; Liam Higgins went 2-4 with two walks and an RBI; Brody Ceh went 2-4 with an RBI; Colin Christensen went 2-4 with one walk; and Jake Paymaster went 1-2 with four walks. As our season progresses, so will our boys' level of play. Our next game is Sunday June 6th in Westchester. I would also like to congratulate the 12U Manhattan Mavericks on their performance in this weekend's tournament. The 12U Mavericks went 2-1; defeating Troy 13-0 and Tinley Park 16-7; and losing to Flossmoor 11-2. Great Job 12U Mavericks!!
GAME 4 VS. FLOSSMOOR
The 8U Mavericks picked up their second win of the season on Sunday May 23rd at home defeating Flossmoor 12-1, taking their record to 2-1. Once again those who watched the game witnessed excellent pitching performances by Nathan Smith, Tyler Busse, and Liam Higgins. The Mavericks' offense provided the run support with Higgins starting things off in the first inning with a homerun to left field. Marc Thrash contributed a couple of clutch hits and driving in four runs and Rory Stencel knocked in two runs as well. An all around great team effort, both offensively and defensively by the Mavericks. Our schedule next takes us to Palos on Saturday May 29th to compete in the Chicagoland Sunday League Memorial Day Tournament.
MANHATTAN MAVERICKS 8U TEAM PICNIC
On Sunday May 23rd (11:30am) following our home game against Flossmoor, the 8U Mavericks will be having our team picnic at the Central Park Pavilion. Players, parents and siblings are all invited to attend. This is a great opportunity for all the families that have all put in so much "baseball" time over the past seven months to get together for some fun and forget about baseball for an afternoon. I hope to see everyone there!
GAME 3 VS. FLOSSMOOR
The Manhattan Mavericks 8U team traveled to Flossmoor on Sunday May 16th for our actual 2nd game of the season and unfortunately found ourselves on the losing end of a 23-6 score. However, there were some bright spots for the Mavericks including good pitching performances by Liam Higgins and Jake Paymaster; and base hits by Chris Augustine, Rory Stencel, Sam Forsythe, Billy Ryan and Liam Higgins. Our next game is scheduled for Sunday May 23rd at our home field (Anna McDonald South) against Flossmoor B team.
GAME 2 VS. GRIFFITH
The Manhattan Mavericks 8U team traveled to Griffith, Indiana on Sunday April 25th for our second game of the season. After a brief rain delay, we attempted to get our game played, scoring 3 runs in the top of the 1st inning on an RBI single by Nathan Smith. Unfortunately Mother Nature was not on our side as we were unable to get in even one inning before the sky opened back up. Thank you to the parents for making the trip and sitting in the rain patiently while we attempted to get the game in.
GAME 1 VS. CHANNAHON
The Manhattan Mavericks 8U Travel Team started off their season with a 25-13 victory over Channahon on April 18th. It was a great game with excellent pitching performances by Liam Higgins, Jake Paymaster and Tyler Busse. Brody Ceh started off the scoring for the Mavericks with a first inning grand slam. The rest of the line up did their part to provide run support for their pitchers including a home run by Marc Thrash and bases loaded triple by Rory Stencel. Our next game is Sunday April 25th at Griffith, Indiana. Great Job Mavericks 8U!!
